Venue: The Sámi Education Institute in Inari, Finland

Description: The host organization of this 3-day cross-sectoral study visit (VET, ADU) is The Sámi Education Institute in Lapland, Finland. It is a is a vocational college with a central role in developing the needs of Sámi people and the Arctic region. The study visit will be organized in May 12.-16.5.2024 for 20 people, and it focuses on topics including innovations in adapting education to the needs of the local community and environment, e.g. vocational education, informal and non-formal education, self-sufficiency and preparedness for exceptional circumstances, e.g. food supply, transportation, resilience and distance learning. In addition, topics discussed will cover cross-border collaboration, and how to operate efficiently in an educational environment in a large geographical area. The study visit will also address topics of inclusion, such as access to education in rural areas, best practices in conveying traditional skills and knowledge, preserving traditional way of life of indigenous people. The study visit will consist of site visits, discussions and presentations. 

Target group: Education providers in rural and mountain areas in vocational and adult education. Potential participants include teachers, trainers, education managers, local school authorities and other professionals working in the field of education.

Additional information:

Transportation from Helsinki-Vantaa Airport to Inari (Ivalo Airport) will be provided to selected participants. Participants are expected to arrive at Helsinki Airport on 12.5.2023 no later than 19.00 for dinner before flight to Ivalo. The return flight will arrive in Helsinki on 16.5.2024 at 15.25.
