Teaching sustainability competences for hope, well-being and systemic understanding
Summary of TCA outcomes
TCA thematic seminar “Teaching sustainability competences for hope, well-being, and systemic understanding” took place in Jyväskylä on 1.-4.10.2023 (FI01_0498_THO_2023) and was organized under the LTA Sustainability and greening. The participants of this seminar were school heads and class teachers of lower primary education (teaching pupils of 6-12 years old). The participants gained new knowledge, ideas, methods, skills, and motivation to develop sustainability education and diversify related learning/teaching methods. In the workshops, the participants gained an overview of GreenComp and its use as a framework in sustainability education and all four competence areas of GreenComp were discussed. There were also visits to local schools to understand the context of sustainability education in the Finnish schools. Different practical methods in utilizing the outdoor as learning environments was emphasized. The participants were offered a separate session for networking and building future cooperation. Also, the cultural programme was built to support networking beyond the official seminar programme. The seminar was co-produced with the Finnish Institute for Educational Research at the University of Jyväskylä and in cooperation with the Swedish Erasmus+ National Agency.
