Teaching for Tomorrow: Global Education for Global Challenges - Citizenship and Inclusion in Teacher Training for Primary Education
Main Info
TCA Description
Theme: global education and inclusion in teacher training. How can you create an inclusive international community in teacher training institutions, and how an internationalising curriculum? With attention to topics such as (global) citizenship and diversity.
In this TCA for teacher trainers, we want to address one of the main challenges that (future) primary school teachers are facing in the 21st century: increasing cultural and linguistic diversity in the classroom. How can teacher trainers prepare their students to be able to incorporate the necessary competences? And how can international mobilities for teacher trainers and student teachers play a role here?
The TCA will offer ample opportunities for networking and exchanging ideas, practices and research findings. Participants are inspired by the good practice examples from teacher training institutes in The Netherlands, and expand their European network. Participants explore the possibilities to further collaborate and to further shape knowledge exchange (e.g. via projects in eTwinning and Erasmus+).
After the seminar, participants will be aware of the needs and wants for professional development of teacher trainers and curriculum development in their institutions in the field of cultural and linguistic diversity and inclusion in the classroom. Also, participants will have broadened their European network and will have gained new connections for collaboration at an international level on the themes addressed.
This TCA focuses on initial teacher training for future primary school teachers. The NA will work with the eTwinning NSS; there will probably be a dedicated TwinSpace for this event.
The event will start at around 2PM (lunch not provided) on Monday 29 September, at the Leiden University of Applied Science. There will be keynote speeches on Monday afternoon and Tuesday morning, maybe some discussions with Dutch students training to become primary school teachers, followed by visits to a number of primary schools on Tuesday afternoon. On Wednesday morning there will be possibilities for participants to share their own good practices during Open Space sessions. The TCA will conclude with a lunch on Wednesday. Participation all aspects of the TCA is compulsory.
