Skills for Democracy: Participation and Civic Engagement in VET
Main Info
TCA Description
This Erasmus+ contact seminar addresses the programme priority Participation and Civic Engagement, with a strong focus on developing and applying democratic competences in Vocational Education and Training (VET).
Democratic and civic skills are increasingly recognised as essential competences for both learners and educators. In line with the Council of Europe’s Reference Framework of Competences for Democratic Culture (RFCDC) and the Council Recommendation on promoting common values, inclusive education and the European dimension of teaching, the seminar explores how Erasmus+ can contribute to building a democratic learning culture within VET schools
The seminar is aimed at teachers & trainers from VET schools, teacher educators within a VET context, Erasmus+ coordinators, and school staff from VET schools.
Around 70 participants from across Europe will come together to exchange ideas, learn from good practices, and develop new Erasmus+ project initiatives that foster active citizenship and democratic skills at school, institutional, and community levels. Participants will engage with the question: How can Erasmus+ projects help strengthen democratic culture and civic engagement in VET contexts? The seminar places particular emphasis on mobility (KA121/122) and small-scale partnership (KA210) projects.
The programme includes:
- keynotes and practical workshops
- exchange of best practices and successful project examples
- space for developing new Erasmus+ project ideas
- opportunities to build and expand a European network
- excursions to political and European institutions in Vienna
By the end of the seminar, participants will:
- have developed new project ideas and potential partner institutions for Erasmus+ mobility (KA121, KA122) or small-scale (KA210) projects or beyond
- understand how to align projects with the priority of civic engagement and participation,
- gain practical tools and methods to promote democratic skills in their own institutions,
The seminar begins on Sunday, 19 October, in the late afternoon with networking activities, followed by a joint welcome dinner. Full seminar days are scheduled for Monday, 20 October and Tuesday, 21 October, concluding with a farewell dinner on Tuesday evening. Departures are planned for the morning of Wednesday, 22 October, after breakfast.
Full participation throughout the seminar is expected.
The Austrian National Agency will cover accommodation for three nights (19–21 October) at The Hoxton Hotel in Vienna, which is also the seminar venue. All meals and the social programme during the seminar are included.
